Ram’s in Q’mmunity Mentoring Program

The Rams in Q'mmunity LGBTQIA+ Mentoring Program is designed to support your transition to Colorado State University and set you up for academic, personal, and social success! Inspired by the concept of chosen family and its vital role in Queer identity development, we hope to connect CSU students to students with similar identities navigating the complexities and joys of being LGBTQIA+.

As part of the Rams in Q'mmunity program, students are assigned to a Family Group. In these groups, students will have the opportunity to connect with others in their community and receive personalized support and guidance from their Family Group Leader, an LGBTQIA+ student who serves as a mentor for participants in the program.

You may be asking yourself, what is a chosen family? In a definition provided by Queer Queries, A chosen family "is a group of individuals who deliberately choose one another to play significant roles in each other’s lives." One definition of chosen family is a group of people to whom you are emotionally close and consider ‘family’ even though you are not biologically or legally related". While we understand that the concept of family is complex for many, especially considering our intersections of identity, we hope this program provides all of us with a sense of community, familial connection, and belonging that we deserve as LGBTQIA+ community members at CSU.
